When the weather gets cold, it can be hard to think of something fun --and steamy-- to do for a night out. But it's not! Whether you're meeting somebody from an free internet dating site for the first time or planning a date night with your sweetie, these hot date ideas will definitely warm up your average winter day.
1. Make a batch of something hot. There's something so fun and romantic about cooking together. On a cold night, a great date idea is to turn on your favorite music, share a bottle of wine, and spend an hour cooking up a batch of ultra-warming soup or stew, then savoring it together at a candle-lit table.
2. Fireplace goodies. Remember when you used to roast marshmallows and other goodies by the fire as a kid? Relive that with your date! Go shopping together for your favorite fireside treats (hotdogs, sausages, marshmallows and chocolate for smores, etc.), and pick up a bottle of champagne to go with them. Then create a cozy haven by the fire and get roasting. Who would've thought that being a kid again could be so romantic?
3. Indoor rock climbing. Getting active is a great way to heat things up. Take your sweetie to in indoor rock climbing gym, and get a sweat going! Enjoy the view from behind as your date climbs up the indoor rock wall... then relax together with a hot drink or a glass of wine when you're done.
4. Indoor summer. You may not be able to change the weather, but with the right ambiance you can forget it's winter altogether. Crank up the heat, rent a few summery movies, and blast your favorite Beach Boys albums. Complete the scene with a pitcher of icy-cold margaritas, and you've got yourself a summer day smack-dab in the middle of winter.
5. Walk in the snow. Summer is beautiful, but there's something so crystal clear and purifying about a cold winter day. Take a walk along the frozen beach, or go out and walk underneath a sky filled with stars like bright points of clear fire. Don't feel like walking? Supply yourselves with a couple of hot Irish coffees and snuggle up under a blanket outside.
6. Hot drink tasting. Nothing warms you up on the inside --and loosens you up while you're at it-- than a hot, boozy drink. Have each of you choose a few of your favorite recipes for heated cocktails (or simply find some online) and spend an afternoon tasting steaming cups of Irish coffee, hot toddy, and other winter favorites.
7. Slap on your skates. There's something inherently romantic about ice skating. Even if you've never been before, skating around a rink with your gloved hands intertwined is a sweet and wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Afterwards, warm up your faces and hands with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
8. Prepare for the Academy Awards. Love movies? The Oscars come every year at the end of winter, and preparing for them can be a great way to spend an icy afternoon. Rent copies of the Oscar-nominated movies that are already out on DVD, or spend an afternoon movie-hopping from one Oscar nominee to another. Then have a competition to see who can guess the most winners correctly. And don't forget to feast on plenty of popcorn while you do it!
9. Get out your sled. Sledding is something that adults rarely think of doing, but that never stops being fun-- even if you haven't tried it for 20 years. Nothing quite gets the blood pumping like sledding down a snowy hill, laughing like a couple of kids.
10 .Get out of town. Been dating awhile? Use the cheaper wintertime prices as an excuse to get out of town. Book a little cabin in the woods for a night, and spend the day making snow angels and the evening making love in front of the fire. Even if it's freezing outside, it may just be one of the most romantic things you ever do.
