3 Biggest Online Dating Mistakes Guys Are Making

Sigh…I’m just gonna get right to the point: men, when are you going to learn how to properly put together an online dating profile? Seriously, we’ve been in this techno-dating age for how many years now? I don’t care what age you are, I really can’t think of a good reason to not be properly seasoned in the ways of internet lovin’ by now.

Regardless, it seems that many of you just can’t get it together. For example, I was recently looking over the new online dating profile of a good buddy of mine. This guy is totally great. He’s undoubtedly a catch by any standards. But his profile made him look like the absolute dullest, lamest, most awkward version of himself possible. And his profile picture was of him doing a keg stand in college! He’s 31 years old now! And really hot, so it’s not like he was just trying to look younger or something. He said he thought it would be “funny”. Seriously? And this is a man who, in real life, actually is quite hilarious. There just seems to be something about constructing an online synopsis of oneself that makes men completely forget how to convey their awesomeness.

Now, I certainly don’t mean to be sexist here; I’m more than certain that there are a sad number of women out there who are currently flubbing up their online dating profiles terribly. But hey, I’m a chick and I’ve definitely spent more time looking at dudes’ profiles. That’s just how it is. So, in hopes that no one of either gender will feel neglected/persecuted, here are my top three online dating profile mistakes that I sincerely hope men will stop making:

1) Be original…really

One of the biggest mistakes guys tend to make in their online dating profile is saying they’re funny, when really, they should just take all that empty typing space and be funny. We’re smart girls. We know a sense of humor when we see one. And sadly, in the online dating world, we don’t see one frequently enough.

But that’s not the only point here; the real idea is to be original. Do you know how many guys are using the exact same five, generic terms to describe themselves? Yeah, pretty much all of them. Not that we ladies don’t want a man who is “dependable”, “funny”, “outgoing”, “easy-going”, etc, but come on…give us more to work with than that!

I’m sorry but if I saw a profile with nothing more interesting and promising than those adjectives on it, I’d just keep on movin’…and so would the majority of other ladies who are worth a damn.

2) Mind the photo

Doesn’t it feel like we’ve told you this before, guys? Okay. Let’s go over it again: please do not do any of the following things with your profile picture when you’re online dating: let it feature a keg/strippers, let it be of just an animal (actually a picture of you and your dog is kinda lame too, unless you’re doing something awesome like hiking or saving a boat full of nuns together), let it be of you and your ex (seriously, some of you are still doing this. We don’t care if it’s the most flattering picture of you)…this list could go on for a long time.

It’s safe to say that all we want you to do is present us with a nice, clear image of what you currently look like (no reachin’ back to the glory days, old timer; embrace your Silver Foxiness!) Don’t worry about getting tricky. The goal is very simple here.

3) Back and forth forever

There is a lot to be said for the sweet anticipation of exchanging those first few getting-to-know-you, slightly flirtatious emails back and forth with a new find on a dating website. It’s pretty great. And that’s the beauty of cyber-dating; you get to pre-screen your dates without looking like a jerk for doing so.

But there comes a time when going through to process of online dating, with the emails and the various little online contacts, turns into a serious and terrible lack of trigger pulling. In short, we want you to ask us to meet in person.

This doesn’t have to be complicated; suggest something simple and as pressure-free as possible, like coffee. It simply baffles women why it takes men so long to get to this point. I mean, if they aren’t interested, you’ll know it right away and come on, this is a pretty emotionally safe format in which to get rejected. You don’t really have much to lose…except a potentially awesome lady’s interest if you drag your feet for too long.

Sorry hun but you girls need to take heed here too. How likely is it that at this stage in life you only have one picture?

A bit of advice to the author: If you want to go out for coffee that bad you could just ask the man yourself. Consider getting off your "I'm a woman" pedestal, you'll find yourself meting many more great guys ;)

thx for the post, nice to try and understand a womans perspective on this. i can tell you that I am not to quick anymore to jump the gun meeting a girl online simply because I have met so freakin nut bars so I try to have a bit more of a screening process to watch for the red flags.

There are alot of what I call"feelers" that just want to test the waters so to speak. You want to see if they are for real. there is just alot of players out there. you have got to be careful or you just waste time and emotions. Yes we all need to make a good impression, because the first impression is the lasting one. statements need to be clear so to avoid missunderstandings.

Just saying, I've done and said all this, but the fact remains that women out their are pretty high up on their pedestal. Women talk down to men as if we are immature people. We are on dating sites because women are habitual liars out there in the real world. Women use men, women treat men like crap. How do I know this? Because I've been a stepping stone for women all my life. And before all you women jump down my throat, I would like to point out that I've been a gentlemen all my life. But at the same time I've heard it all. "I want prince Charming" but in reality they always go for the bad boys.

You forgot that the picture has to be attractive. If you look ugly, even if it IS the real you, you will never even get a nudge, never mind an email. I know this because it happens to me all the time.

as for the pic thing. I really can't vote for either side. either way there are too many superfical men and women on here. no one believes in equal opportinuty or the fail safe that just because you cant see them doesnt mean they arent what you are looking for. my pet peeve would be that when you do start a covo with someone. Instead of being honest and saying hey I dont think you are my type or we dont connect they just ignor your next message... but I guess on line dating someone saying they are honest doesnt me they will be with you. ignorance is bliss. and thats why most people are alone

What`s wrong with MSN ??? i think it`s a great way know with whom u`re dealing with quite fast ...time is precious and if the guys sees that u don`t have interest in him he`ll just move on ... i guess that`s a normal/logical behavior ... and Shorty42 not all of men will beat off behind their desk and talk dirty ...

I like sex like any other guy but I also can respect it when a woman doesn`t want to have cyber fun or be naughty ... just a matter of communication :)

so please don`t put all men in the same basket :)

Some Women online seem to want Mr. Perfect. Someone with no flaws. They act superior and somewhat snobbish to men because there are more men than women on here. Perhaps it is better just to meet real people in real life. I have also seen MANY, MANY exact profiles by women just as the author criticize men with.. I am sensitive, funny, charming, ect. Also they appear not to have any flaws themselves. I have seen some vicious, judgmental women, usually the divorced type who blame everything on the man, then us their kids to crap on...your just like your father...blah ..blah. Well ladies, MOTHERS YOU MARRIED HIM WE KIDS DID NOT SO WHY DO YOU TAKE YOUR ANGER OUT ON US??

With a well fought drawn series with South Africa at home, India has managed to stay on top of the ICC test rankings.

The top class Indian batsmen in Tendulkar, Sehwag, Laxman, Dravid proved beyond doubt that Indian batting is the best lineup in the world as of now.

Indian bowlers came back very well in the 2nd test to get rid of South African batsmen twice to give India the all important win.

Thank rain gods for the fear induced and uplifting the fighting spirits of Indian players.

Hats of to Amla for the well deserved Man of the series award.

Writing an online profile is an art, and it's a difficult one to master. The problem is that your ad is competing with hundreds of others, so if there's anything in yours that turns readers off, they're going to move on quickly. For a man who's looking for a women through an online profile, it's especially important to write a strong profile that doesn't scare the women away. Women online daters are extra careful because they're worried about potential stalkers and assorted dangerous loonies. Plus in many cases, there simply are more men than women on an online dating site, in which case women can be choosy.

So how can you avoid mistakes in your online profile that will make women stop reading? Here's how to stay away from these common errors and increase your chances of meeting someone through your profile.

Rich handsome men are usually expected to have very beautiful women on their arms. Women are status symbols for many such men. The lifestyle requires a beautiful woman as much as it requires a car that costs more than a quarter of a million dollars, or a multi-million dollar home. That’s why so many wealthy men cost so much time on sugarbabymeet.c0m for beautiful and young women.
