5 VERY Good Reasons to Dump Her
by Chloe ◊ December 1, 2008
Recently, I wrote an article listing five guilt-free reasons to dump your boyfriend. There are just some things that guys do that practically beg a woman to dump them. But we women do these things, too! So, guys, read on for five very good reasons to dump your girlfriend that will give you little or no angst about making the right decision. Sort of like "Get Out of Jail Free" cards, any of the following things give you a perfectly legitimate excuse to say "see you later."
5. She cares too much about your money. Much as I hate to talk about a cliché like the "money-grubbing girlfriend," the fact that she exists is an unfortunate truth. Sure, everybody likes to think about their future and their security. But if a girl focuses more on what you have (or, not to put too fine a point on it, what you can give her) than on who you are, it's probably time for you to move on. Relationships are about a lot of things, but outside of the 19th century, they shouldn't be about money.
4. She's jealous of your friends. Everybody has their own needs and insecurities. But some women let their insecurities about their relationships get in the way of their partners' friendships. The word here, much as I hate to use is, is probably "clingy." If she can't understand why you don't want her to come along every time you head down to the bar to watch the football game with your friends, it's probably a warning sign of future problems. As long as you're spending time with her, too, you should be allowed to have your own life... and not feel guilty about it.
This is a good rule of thumb with internet dating as well as with traditional dating. If she gets upset that you chat with other people online, or don't chat her up every time you log onto your computer, she'll likely be just as clingy once you meet in person.
3. She's self-absorbed. This is another one of those ugly female clichés that, as a woman, I hate. But the utterly self-absorbed woman is much more common than most of us would wish. If you've been dating somebody for awhile only to find that her interest in you as a person is, well, non-existent, it's time to get out. While the physical stuff can make up for a lack of personal connection for a short time, it won't make you happy in the long run. Look for somebody who can give you both.
2. She refuses to trust you. We've all had our hurts in life; things that make it harder for us to trust the people we date. But if a woman you're dating can't allow herself to trust you --even though you've done everything to earn her trust-- it's probably time to move on. Unless she's wonderful in every way, it may not be worth your while to stick around and watch her work out her problems. Or watch her fail to work them out.
1. She cheats. This is the obvious one, right? If your girlfriend cheats on you, you can, of course, choose to work out your problems and try to get over it. But you can also choose to dump her and not look back. When somebody cheats, they lose the right to complain about being left behind. Just as with men, women who cheat once are much more likely to cheat again. You deserve somebody who can make the same commitment to the relationship that you do. There's no reason to settle for less.
