Blog

When did it happen that blogs are suddenly everywhere? I mean, everywhere. This internet dating site even has a blog! One day, they weren’t a part of our lives at all and now, well, they’re unavoidable. Everyone’s got one, on every topic imaginable. Maybe it’s a hazard (or is it a perk? Hmm) of being a writer who spends all day attached to a laptop, but perusing the myriad of weblogs out there has become a favorite time-wasting distraction.

I’m not going to lie; most of them are useless. But there are some true gems out there. In finding those great little cyber secrets, let me save you some legwork. Here are my top picks for whatever suits your fancy:

If you’re into fashion…

The Sartorialist

www.thesartorialist.blogspot.com/ features the beautiful photography and stylistic musings of former fashion buyer and current GQ columnist Scott Schuman. He rambles the planet, taking pictures of everyday fashionistas and documenting it all for us to enjoy.

The Cherry Blossom Girl

www.thecherryblossomgirl.com I love this blog and the sassy young French designer who runs it. Her name is Alix and she’s the proprietor and photographic star of this charming blog. She has awesome clothes, takes lovely pictures and in general, seems to have a super fabulous life in France. All of the above makes me hate her just a little but try not to let your envy keep you from enjoying this tasty blog.

If you’re into art…

Fecal Face

www.fecalface.com is run by a couple of guys in San Francisco. Basically, they interview artists, highlight shows across the country (including their own space) and simply feature anything they think is intriguing and awesome, all presented in a visually interesting and smart package. Fortunately, these guys have (in opinion, at least) impeccable taste in new art.

It’s Nice That

…this blog exists. www.itsnicethat.com goes across the globe to seek out what’s new and thought-provoking and revolutionary in art, literature and design. I’ve never seen anything on this site that I didn’t want to immediately go out and learn more about. The straightforward structure and presentation makes the content of the blog the true focus.

If you’re into health…

Half of Me

Residing at www.pastaqueen.com/halfofme/, Half of Me is the blog from the “Pasta Queen” who lost loads of weight and tracked it online. She now offers witty advice, stories and tips for realistic health and weightloss. I like it.

Cranky Fitness

Crabby McSlacker (seriously) of www.crankyfitness.com approaches diet, exercise and overall wellness with the exact kind of begrudging love-hate we can all identify with sometimes. Even better, beneath all the snarky stories and commentary, this web gal seems to really know some useful stuff.
