Choosing Photos for Your Internet Dating Profile

Lens And Camera

Whether your internet dating experience is successful or not is dependant on a lot of factors. Your interests, your age, your writing... even your grammar. But not many things have the sort of impact on your success rate that your profile photos will. Because while looks aren't the number one concern for every person using an internet dating site, how you look is definitely up there in the priority list. Your photos are the first thing that will attract a potential contact's interest. And hopefully keep it.

Depending on the kind of internet dating site you use, you may or may not be able to upload more than one photo (here at Datepad, you can upload up to 20). The more photos of yourself you are able to upload, the better your chances of capturing somebody's attention, and sticking in their mind after they've looked at dozens of other profiles. First, be sure to choose a nice close-up portrait of your face-- this is generally the picture that the site’s members will see to encourage them to click on your profile. Next, upload more photos that give a good idea of your personality and your interests. It's also good to provide photos that show you from a variety of angles.

Next, of course, you want to make sure that any photos you post to your internet dating profile actually make you look good. Because most of us are our own worst critic, it can be a good idea to run your photo choices by a friend for an idea of how they depict you. In fact, it's often a good idea to run your profile by a friend in general, as they generally have a sharper, more objective eye.

Of course, while it's important to look your best in the photos you choose for your internet dating profile, you also want to look like, well... you. Choose recent photos that depict you as you really are. If it's 15 years old and you were 15 pounds lighter when it was taken, it's not a good choice. It's also not a good choice to show a lot of skin. While lots of cleavage or leg will certainly capture attention, it may not be the attention that you're looking for.

In fact, I generally advise that you highlight personality over looks. If forced to choose between one photo in which you look really good but don't have much personality, and another photo in which you look good (but not quite as good) but are full of personality, choose the personality photo over the looks one. After all, your personality is what you want potential partners to like you for, right?

Lastly, the internet dating photos you choose for your profile should try to relate back to your profile. If you mention that you love Indian food, put in a photo of you cooking up a curry in your kitchen. You may even want to mention different photos when you talk about your interests. The more personal and relatable your photos, the more people will connect with your profile on a personal level. And that connection is just what you're looking for.
