Most guys aren't geniuses when it comes to taking care of their homes. Especially if you've recently gotten out of a relationship, it can be easy to just let things go. Maybe you don't even notice that the kitchen counter needs to be wiped down and you need a new couch. Or maybe you just don't have the energy or the desire to take care of it. But if you're dating or free internet dating, it's time to start. Because if you want to attract women to your place and keep them there, you've got to make your home lady friendly.
There's a reason why this is the first thing on our list: a dirty home is a huge turn off! Unless your mother taught you about the ins and outs of keeping things clean, chances are your home is a bit of a mess. And while most women won't balk at a little clutter here and there, they will balk at, well, actual dirtiness. Especially in the kitchen and the bathroom. If your toilet is stained and there are congealing gobs of green toothpaste in the sink, you're just begging to turn her off. Ditto for stinking piles of dishes in the kitchen sink or --worst of all!-- roaches running across the floor.
Keeping your home neat doesn't mean you have to be a slave to cleanliness. Simply remember to vacuum or sweep, dust, and wipe down the surfaces in your home once a week or so. Set aside a day of the week to spend a couple of hours doing it, and then stick to the schedule. Can't or won't make time? Hire a cleaning service (most are not too expensive) to come by once a week and do it for you.
If you don't tend to keep your place clean, chances are it doesn't smell too clean either. Those stacks of dirty dishes and the fuzz-covered food in the fridge aren't going to create the most attractive of smells! A lot of people make their first impressions with their nose. Buying one of those plug-in room fresheners (preferably one with a clean rather than a fruity or sickeningly sweet scent) can help cover up the fact that you don't keep the house as fresh as you could.
When you were younger, it was okay to take pride in your collection of empty Southern Comfort bottles and stacks of pizza boxes in the corner. As an adult --and one that is trying to attract and keep a woman-- that kind of thing just isn't okay. Even if you love your black light Jimi Hendrix poster, it's time to relegate it to a closet or some other place out of sight.
But just because you want your home to speak to women doesn't mean you should try to transform it into a lair of seduction. There's nothing cheesier (and creepier, actually) than a man with red lights and satin sheets in the bedroom. The truth is, you don't have to give yourself over totally to what you think women like. Decorate your home with your own tastes. Flip thorough a few magazines and decide what you like. Then do what you can to recreate it in your own place. It doesn't have to be picture perfect, but it should be you. As long as "you" doesn't mean plastic milk crates for chairs and stacks of magazines in the corners.
Everybody has those old items that just seem to pile up and make a mess. But if you want to attract dates and keep them, it's a good idea to get your home as organized as possible. After all, it's the best way to stay clutter free. Create a place for the things in your home --bills, new magazines, shoes-- and make an effort to put everything away at least once a week.
You might have been sleeping on them long enough that you don't notice, but most women notice cheap, rough sheets. And sheet burn is anything but romantic. Invest in a set or two of high-thread-count cotton sheets (no, don't get silk or satin!). Then keep them clean. Believe me, she'll be a lot more likely to stay in your bed (and enjoy being there) if you have soft, clean sheets. Even if there is a Jimi Hendrix poster in the corner
