To quote the BeeGees "Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again." But how do you mend a broken heart? How do you stop the rain from falling down? It's never easy, it will take time, and you will learn to live again. How? Read on;
The first step in mending your broken heart is accepting that your relationship is well and truly over. Kaput, busted, dead, never to be resurrected. Depending on the length of your relationship, healing your heart may take weeks, months or even years. Some experts claim that your healing period will last twice as long as the actual relationship and others say it will take half that time. Experts, what do they know??
Go ahead, most of us have done it. We wrap ourselves up in despair and grief, eat a bucket of Ben and Jerry's, drink more than is good for us, gorge on fast food and in the process we cry our eyes out and wish we'd invested in Kleenex stock.
Your best friends should expect to be not just a shoulder to cry on but they should be available 24/7, at least for a few days anyway. Most of them have been through this themselves and know just how you feel. Chances are you were their shoulder to cry on, so now it's time for them to return the favor.
If you already belong to a gym, great! Now start going more often, everyday if need be. If you don't have a gym membership, consider getting one. If your wallet can't handle the strain, find other ways of getting active. Physical activity serves a dual purpose when you're suffering from a broken heart. One, it releases endorphins, the 'feel good' hormones. It's a scientifically proven fact that working out makes your brain happier. Second, it gets you out of the house. You can only hide and wallow for so long before it gets old. You'll also have the added benefit of improved physical fitness and physique, both of which are a great starting points for diving back into the dating pool.
We all have different ways in which we spoil and pamper ourselves. Whether it's a day at the spa (men, this works for you too!), a new outfit, purse or shoes, a meal at your favorite haute cuisine restaurant, or a trip to a somewhere you've always wanted to go, do something special for yourself.
You've been through hell, you're halfway back. Put yourself first, for now, you deserve it.
