Preparing for Winter and Flu Season
Enjoy winter and prevent the flu
by Katarina_HD ◊ January 11, 2008
I sit here writing this on one of the warmest days in late October than I can ever remember. It was a partly sunny day with a high of 26 degrees! Like so many others, my husband and I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and have a late lunch at one of our favourite restaurants outside on a patio. It was an unexpected treat for sure. Normally, it’s much colder and normally people are more focused on the coming winter ahead and all that is in store.
Having said that, I thought I would remind you all we need to think about colds and flues and how not to get them so we can enjoy the winter weather and all it has to offer.
As a practicing homeopathic doctor
I have found the following protocol to be of immense value in aiding the prevention of influenza. I have used this protocol both professionally in my practice as well as at home with my family for several years with great success.
Influenzinum is a homeopathic preparation made from the most recent influenza vaccination. Many homeopathic pharmaceutical companies make Influenzinum including Boiron, which can be purchased at your local health food store or WHP, which can be purchased online. I personally use Boiron’s individual single-dose tubes and recommend taking Influenzinum once a month each month commencing October through to March (a total of 6 doses over 6 months). I place one single-dose tube in a pitcher of water, wait until the pellets have completely dissolved and have each member of the family drink at least 1 ounce of the mixture. That’s it and nothing can be simpler or safer to use. This protocol is safe to use for adults, children and the elderly so you can use this protocol with everyone in your family. You can also use Influenzinum for side effects to the flu shot.
If you prefer, you can find homeopathic practitioners who offer homeopathic flu prophylaxis free of charge through the National United Professional Association of Trained Homeopaths (NUPATH).
Above and beyond treating the flu preventatively, simple tried and true preventative measures should also be used in order to improve immunity and encourage homeostasis (a state of equilibrium).
Drink plenty of clean and natural water. Get plenty of sleep, at least 8 hours, to ensure that your body is well rested and does not get run down. Take Vitamin C (about 1,000 mg per day)
If you are unlucky enough to contract the flu this year, don’t panic, it’s just the flu and the flu can still effectively and easily be treated homeopathically and without traditional medical intervention. If you have the flu, take one full single-dose tube of Influenzinum 3 or 4 times a day until symptoms improve and then repeat as necessary.
You can take Oscillococcinum, a product also made by Boiron, which is more for treating a cold but can be helpful just the same if you have contracted the flu. If you feel the symptoms worsening, contact your local homeopathic practitioner who can treat the symptoms individually and provide you with a more specific remedy for your case. In many cases of the flu, the pathology changes which will require your practitioner to change or alternate remedies more frequently.
By following this protocol every year, you will notice that you will no longer be bothered by the flu at all and at best only get an occasional cold.
Good luck and get out there this year and enjoy the winter weather for a change.

Interesting reading, I will consider this treatment next season (already had a flu shot!).
