Spring In All It S Glory

The days are getting a little longer, the sun is shining a little warmer, and the out of doors is looking more and more inviting by the moment. It's spring, and summer is on the way. Spring is the perfect season for being outside, for getting in touch with your body, and for enjoying a feeling of newness and rebirth. It's a time to shed away the quiet depression of winter and feel like... well... feel like yourself again.

Spring is also the perfect time to make a lifestyle change. The change in the weather and the world around you can create the perfect environment in which to make a change in yourself. Want to live healthier, or just shave a few pounds off the weight you reported on your free internet dating profile? Read on for some tips on making a springtime change.

Starting with Spring Veggies

Spring is good for a lifestyle change for more than just emotional reasons-- it's also a good time to make a change for practical reasons. Sure, you made all of those "pie in the sky" New Year's resolutions. But winter is a difficult time to start up with a healthy diet. Not only is most of the food available to you heavy and calorie-laden, that kind of food is also what your body craves.

But in springtime, the foods around you --and the foods your body asks you for-- begin to change. Winter is all about heavy, starchy root vegetables and rich meats. But spring is the season of leafy greens, nutrient-rich veggies, and wonderful fresh fruits. Especially when you try to eat in-season foods, springtime fare is some of the best for your health. It's inexpensive and readily available, it tastes wonderful, it's full of nutrients, and it can even help you burn fat. Famous spring foods like chives and asparagus are even thought to help emulsify fat and improve the liver. Which in turn, of course, speeds up your metabolism.

The best way to eat for a healthy body during the spring time is to eat natural. Instead of picking up the over-processed and polished veggies at your local grocery store, visit farmers markets for fresh-from-the-farm produce.

Springing into Action

Making a healthy lifestyle change in the spring isn't only about eating healthier foods. It's also about getting active. Being physically active doesn't only burn calories, that activity also speeds up our metabolism, helping us burn a little extra fat.

Working out in the wintertime is the pits. There are only so many days in a row that you feel like sitting on a stationary bike or mounting an elliptical machine! When it's dark and cold outside, the gym can be a little depressing. But the onset of spring makes getting the exercise you need a lot easier. When spring arrives, plenty of outdoor activities come along with it. Whether you want to take a long, scenic hike or play a game of baseball, spring encourages you to get outside and get exercise-- and enjoy doing it.

Want to get out there and get active? Then it's time to take some initiative. Look in your local paper or on a site like Craigslist for activities classes in your area, like rock climbing or outdoor Tai Chi. Or take a walk down to your local park and see what kinds of sports or games are going on that you might be able to get involved in. Even look on internet groups or internet dating sites for exercise buddies or fun outdoor activities you may want to join.

Just because you haven't been able to stick to your New Year's resolutions this winter doesn't mean it's too late the get started. Making a big health-related lifestyle change in winter can sometimes be too hard. But if you get started in spring, when the fresh food is wonderful, the sun is warm, and the outdoors are calling your name, making changes in your body and your health is easier than you might think. And if you stick with them though the summer and autumn, you may not even need to make a New Year's resolution next year!
