Sometimes it's the simplest thing that can make or break a date. You meet somebody on a free internet dating site, and everything about them seems terrific. They like a lot of the things you like. They make you laugh. You feel an attraction to them. But then comes the revelation of that one thing: the deal breaker trait that you just can't live with.

And now things are complicated. You like this person, but this trait is a problem. Should you try to overlook it... or are you wise enough to know that you'll never be able to accept it? The truth is, there are some things you just can't live without (or, more often, that just can't live with). And the whole point of internet dating is to assure that you get those things in the first place. Here, of course, is where internet dating profiles come in. An online profile can tell you a lot about a person-- including whether or not they have any of those "deal breaker" attributes that can get you into trouble.

Sure, you have the information you need on other daters' profile. But the most efficient way to find somebody online is to communicate only with people who match your criteria in the first place. If there's something you can't live with, wouldn't it be better if the people who had that trait couldn't contact you at all? Then you could focus on the people that you actually could have a future with -- and avoid making somebody you couldn't be interested in waste his or her time.

Datepadder "Requirements"

With a new feature here at Datepad, you can now do just that. If you haven't checked it out recently, take a look at your preferences page on "My Datepad." You'll find a list of new options that have been set up specifically to streamline your search. Among the new Datepadder Requirements (found under "Specify Who Can Contact Me") you'll find the following options:

Marital Status: Block users who are married from contacting you via your Datepad profile.

Smoking: Block those who list themselves as smokers from contacting you.

Children: Block members who have children from contacting you.

Goals: Block people who just want "intimate encounters" (you know, just sex) from sending you a message.

If any of these issues are important to you, this feature can really save you a lot of effort and heartache. If you tend to be the sympathetic type, the idea of blocking people who smoke cigarettes or have children may seem a little unfair (or even a little mean). But the truth is, streamlining your search this way also streamlines the search of the people you block, and helps the whole matching process to move more smoothly. People who know they can't contact you because of your personal preferences save a lot of time they would otherwise spend composing messages and looking over your profile. In the end, most are grateful to know they've avoided the effort of making that first contact-- and are ready to move on to the next (and more interested) dater on their list.

Using the requirements feature also saves a lot of headache. If, for instance, you're looking for a serious relationship and tend to receive a lot of messages from members just looking for a one-time fling, eliminating those messages altogether will allow you to focus on finding exactly what you're looking for. And finding that person is why you're here in the first place, right?

We all want different things from our lives and our relationships. Using the internet dating requirements feature here at Datepad just takes the guesswork out of those big "deal breaker" issues. It simplifies the process for everybody concerned, leaving you free to pursue the people you want... and the people who want you.
