The Art of Meditation, Part II

Self Healing Meditation

If you haven't read The Art of Meditation, you will want to read this first.

I’d like to describe a healing meditation that can be done on yourself for healing. It is a form of meditation that is meant to gather information, facilitate healing, provide relaxation and augment spiritual growth.

As a spiritual counselor and healer I have performed hundreds of healings on clients, loved ones and pets too! A healer goes through years of professional training, personal spiritual growth and transformation in order to be able to hold a container strong enough in order to facilitate a healing on someone else. The following healing meditation is only meant to be performed by you on yourself alone. Healings can be performed by anyone (and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their overall general health and wellbeing). If you find that you do enjoy performing healings on yourself and wish to begin to perform healings on others, you can further your studies by becoming a professional healer at various esoteric schools offering such training. Therefore the following exercise is meant to be done only on yourself, please be kind and do not attempt to do this on someone else (even if they do agree).

Begin by grounding yourself as described in The Art of Meditation. Once you are comfortable and have spent several minutes with deep breathing and are deeply relaxed, begin to expand your consciousness inward. Focus on your body and begin either at the top of your head or at the bottom of your feet (doesn’t matter which, whatever you are most comfortable with). As you ‘scan’ each part of your body, (by ‘scan’ I mean viewing in your minds eye with your eyes closed the specific area you are focusing on), begin to be aware of any tightness in your body and the emotion if any that comes up while you focus on that part. Does the discomfort/pain make you angry, does it make you want to cry, or does it frighten you? Knowing exactly what the emotion attached to pain is half the battle. Slowly and intentionally breathe your consciousness into that body part until it begins to relax. If you are feeling pain, again be aware of the emotion, simply naming the emotion will do and continue to breathe into the pain. I know this sounds like the last thing that you want to do but ultimately pain carries a lot of tension. There is a lot of holding on (at various levels) so you need to become friends with the pain and be able to breathe through it. If you are tense while you are breathing then stay here and continue to do deep breathing until it become easier. For some it may take a few breaths, for others it may take several more. Ultimately the goal is to breathe through the pain until you become more relaxed. Eventually you will feel a ‘whoosh’, which is the energy that is being released from your energetic body, and you suddenly notice that the pain is diminished or completely gone.

The process of breathing through the tightness and the pain during the meditation is akin to stretching our body muscles after a workout. When you stretch and hold a position you initially feel the tension but as you allow yourself to breathe through it while you are holding the position, the muscle relaxes and it no longer hurts. This is exactly what we are attempting to do except at an energetic level.

You can continue the healing meditation by continuing to scan your body and breathing through all your body parts or you can stay in the same spot and end your meditation there. You can go back in the meditation at a later time and focus on the same place of discomfort as often as you like. As you progress and become more proficient with this healing meditation, you will begin to get signs and signals of what the problem is. ‘Listen’ to your body speak, and it will, if you give it the time and the space to do so. Our bodies (and our consciousness within our body) have an infinite wisdom that is beyond our 3D earth bound perception of understanding. Trust that you are doing the meditation well, do it faithfully and with intent and this meditation can help you overcome stress, illness and disease. It is also a perfect way to prevent any kind of illness and disease, so do it often, at least once a week.
