The following is a list of the healthiest foods you can eat on a daily basis. Obviously, there are many more than just ten, but I’ve grouped these ten together to make them easier to remember and to be able to see the variety you can derive from them all.

#10 – Garlic

A friend once said how he considered garlic to be ‘the 5th food group’

Very simply put, garlic is excellent for preventing disease and maintaining health. The more the merrier. Just be sure to chase it down with lots of water to help the detoxifying fumes to purge and keep from following you and burdening those around you!

#9 – Olive Oil

It’s all in the oil we eat

Due to its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids and its high content of antioxidative substances, makes it the best healthy fat you can eat. It controls LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels while raising HDL (the "good" cholesterol) levels. It tastes great and can be added very easily to any dish you make. When added with lemon juice, it also serves as an excellent liver cleanser as well.

#8 – Coconut Oil

The healthy oil

In addition to extra-virgin olive oil, extra-virgin coconut oil is the healthiest fat you can use in your daily food intake. It is a saturated fat better for cooking than olive oil due to its ability to remain stable at high temperatures. Despite being a saturated fat, it can also contribute to weight loss, if consumed on a daily basis, due to its ability to raise your body’s metabolic rate causing the body to burn more calories. It’s recommended for diabetics as it helps to regulate blood sugar and thereby lessening the effects of the disease.

#7 – Eggs

They weren’t lying when the said ‘get cracking’

By far, eggs are by one of the most nutritious foods on the planet, especially when consumed raw. Regardless of whether you eat them raw or not, be sure to buy eggs only from free-range, organically fed chickens. Eggs boast the best sources of good protein and fat, so be sure to add them to you diet.

#6 – Fermented Foods

Long live probiotics

Fermented foods such as Kefir are simply healthy for you because they are probiotics, which basically means they produce and promote the healthy bacteria or yeast to grow in your gut. Yogurt is also a form of a fermented food, however, yogurt is usually high in sugar (or a sugar substitute) and generally contains more filler and less bacteria. Cultured vegetables such as sauerkraut are also a good choice.

#5 – Himalayan Crystal Salt

The purest salt on Earth

Natural Himalayan Crystal Salt contains sodium in an organic complex that includes all the natural elements found existing in the “primal ocean” where all life originated. It contains all of the 84 elements found in your body. So in essence, it rejuvenates your cells every time you ingest it. By replacing common table salt with natural Himalayan Crystal Salt you immediately help to gain a health PH balance in your cells, reduce blood pressure and reduce cholesterol, increase your energy and vitality.

#4 – Fish

It’s true – eat fish and you’ll live longer

Cold-water fish like salmon, mackerel and tuna are the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce the risk of cardiac disease. A 3-ounce portion (cooked) has 127 calories, 4 grams of fat, 0 fiber. Brush fillets with ginger-soy marinade and grill or broil until fish flakes easily with a fork.

#3 – Acai Berry

The highest anti-oxidant out there

Acai (pronounced “AH”, “sigh”, “E”) is also a berry but deserves a spot all on it’s own. It’s a fruit grown in the Amazon rainforest and has a rich, berry-cocoa flavor that makes it taste amazing. It’s packed with more antioxidants than blueberries or pomegranates, plus loads of healthy Omega fats, protein and dietary fiber.

#2 – Fruits

The tastiest and sweetest and natural ‘dessert’ we have on the planet. It should be your only option when your sweet tooth beckons.

Although high in vitamins and antioxidants, fruits are also higher in sugar than vegetables and should be used in moderation. Now, don’t get me wrong, if you have a snack choice between a piece of fruit or a donut, then by all means eat the fruit! As with all good things, if there cannot be moderation, then there must be elimination, therefore, for those of you who are trying to lose weight, have high blood pressure or diabetes, then its best to omit fruits from your diet for a while. The following fruits have the best nutrient quantity and quality for daily consumption. If you are eating fruits, or have to limit your consumption of them, then be sure to eat berries as your fruit of choice. They are by far the healthiest choice due to their lower quantity of sugar. Here are the top fruit choices:

Avocados

which contain Oleic acid (an unsaturated fat) helps to lower overall cholesterol and raise levels of HDL, and have the added bonus of being high in fiber. They are high in fat too so don’t eat too many!

Mangos

are a power house of vitamins A and C and a powerful antioxidant to helps prevent inflammation and accelerate repair to damaged tissue.

Berries

In addition to having the lower quantity of sugar, berries also provide high doses of vitamin C, dietary fiber, folic acid and phytochemicals and can help prevent and treat vision problems. You have a great selection to choose from such as blueberries, raspberries, lingonberries, bilberries, cranberries and black currants. Among the best are blueberries which have been shown to slow the aging process, especially in the brain.

#1 – Veggies

By far the best ‘super food’ we have on the planet

Vegetables contain all the vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals your body needs for optimal performance. Vegetables also contain a host of essential nutrients that cannot be found in any other type of food, pill or supplement. These essential nutrients which contain phytochemicals, Vitamins A and C, Iron, and Calcium, are used by the body to repair and build healthy cells, organs and tissues, which increases your overall immunity to disease and illness. So, basically, eat your veggies!

The richer the color of the vegetable, the higher the vital nutrient it holds. So be sure to limit your consumption of potatoes and root vegetables, such as beets and carrots, as they should only be eaten in moderation, and eat lots of rich, full colored vegetables instead, such as:

  • Bok Choy (Chinese cabbage or ‘white’ cabbage)
  • Kale (a member of the cabbage family)
  • Swiss Chard (a member of the beet family)
  • Collard Greens
  • Broccoli
  • Asparagus
  • Green Beans
  • Green, Yellow, Orange or Red Pepper

That’s all there is to it. Not a hard list to remember, very common sense and hopefully there are a few new items in there that you will start looking for at your local grocery store. Remember to choose fresh, local, and organic whenever possible.

This is by far the most stupid list I've read in a couple of years. Number 1, salt is salt. Just because it comes from Nepal doesn't mean it's full of anything other than salt. It doesn't have mystical healing powers and it's no different than the salt in the shaker on your table. Get your head out of your butt. Number 2, Vegetables are the number 1 healthy food? Jeez, I think you just saved my life. So I can eat iceberg lettuce and feel that I'm eating the number 1 healthy food on the planet? Get your head out of your butt.

Salt is not just salt. There is a difference. I've written an article on the properties of Himalayan salt. Read that first. Iceberg wasn't on the list.
