In North American culture where youth and beauty are given such high value, dating after 40 can be a daunting thought. My best advice to 40+ daters is, not to buy into any of the ageist propaganda out there. Don’t let the negative beliefs on aging portrayed in the mass media or culture define you. Instead, see this as the perfect time to re-invent yourself! As we age we gain greater emotional maturity and self-awareness. We are thus better equipped to attract healthy and fulfilling relationships. So, let the folly of your youth fade into your history and look to new and more interesting horizons! Now you have the wherewithal to consciously determine what you want your future relationships to look like. Don’t fret about the competition, your 20 year old self wouldn’t hold a candle to you today! You are far more interesting, worldly, mature and intelligent than you ever were. Every experience has made you who you are today. Now is the time to reap the benefits of your lessons along life’s journey!
