Some information about Aosta

The capital of Valle D'Aosta is located 78 miles north of Turin and is of course world renown for it skiing. It was founded by the Romans in 24 B.C. and commemorated the founding of the town by building the Arch of Augustus, which still stands today. There are many medieval relics to be explored including the Gothic church of Sant'Orso founded in the 12th century. One can also take a cable car to Conca di Pila, the mountain that towers over the town to take in its scenic beauty. Delicious hearty meals that you can expect to find are fondue with local Fontina cheese, homemade ravioli, stuffed turkey, pepperoni flan, eggs with cheese fondue and truffles, and risotto with pesto and broad beans.
