Some information about Shanhaiguan, Hebei

Located 22 miles northeast of Beidaihe and 174 miles east of Beijing, here the Great Wall meets the sea. A military wall surrounds this old fortress town and affords narrow streets within. Travel to the north facing portal of the town where the top has good views of the town, and the Great Wall snaking up nearby mountains. The Great Wall Museum offers a good collection of photographs of the wall from across China and various military artifacts. Traditional fare includes 'hotpot' - thinly sliced meat dipped into boiling broth with an array of sauces and vegetables.
