Well i thought, seeing as i'm fairly heavily into producing music and i've dj'd in the UK and Europe for some 17 years.. why not start up a forum topic based around just that.
I don't really know where to go with this but i'm guessing there's quite a few members on here that are either musicians, singers, song writers, producers or dj's.
So this might be a good starting point for members to find some kind of shared musical interest. Whether it's production tips, questions about technology, possible online collabs and so on.. maybe just sharing some lyrics you wrote.
I'll start by saying i make all kinds of dance music. Mainly drum and bass at the moment. I'm signed to two labels (oh, and i think it might be wise now to say that i don't think this should be a thread for advertising yourselves! Say what you do by all means, but posting links to your myspace profile or personal websites, downloadable material etc should be off limits. I like the anonymity of it and i think it would lower the general tone if everyone started plugging themselves) both drum and bass labels; one in the uk and one in California. I've also produced a fair amount of hip hop and breakbeat but more on the downtempo side of things.
I'm always interested to hear what other people are upto. Singers and other musicians especially. I think it's always good to just put it out there and see what happens.. who knows.. surprise me!

ps. I'm open to questions too.. anyone that has any regarding music tech, software and techniques then hit me up on this thread.
I know alot of software inside out and plenty of useful tips on it together with all kinds of other music oriented bits n bobs. I know how hard it was for me to find stuff out when i started so no question is too small. I've still got loads of questions myself.. every day's a school day, as they say ;-)

one question .. How does one get started ??? I mean lets say you have this keen interest of getting into this industry and clearly you know that you've got alot to learn and grasp. How do you suggest one to start in this industry considering it as a serious career path? Any schools or institute you recommend ? What should be one's knowledge base be like to ideal for a career like this (and i mean technically here) ?

I'm not a professional musician, but I like to play some weird gothibilly-electric-blues-folk-rock fusion in my spare time. Kinda... White Stripes meet Hank Sr. meet Rasputina, I guess? I just wish there were more people around here locally who were into something less mundane than gospel and bluegrass!
I'm planning to try my hand at some busking this summer, just to see how it goes. :P
Someone else chime in! Let's resurrect this thread. :P
