I've always wonderd how much money could be saved in government salaries, housing costs and the like to handle all the issues associated with our many levels of taxation. Would that we all wrote a cheque for a certain percentage for different levels starting after $20K and going down as you go up (like 15% of $20-$50K, 10% of $50 - $100K and 5% over $100K. I bet we would be out of debt much quicker and there would be a lot less hassle.

My tax return was 74 pages this year with all the extra forms and worksheets. And then come to find out I messed it up so now I have to file an amendment. LOL. Next year I finally hire a pro. No more doing it myself. After 11 years of doing my own taxes I am having to hand them over. It has just gotten way too complicated. 74 pages! Can you believe it?

answer = fairtax
*the following is a long boring thesis on why tinkering with the income tax is a waste of time*
most people are pragmatists trying to prosper in a world of chaos. if they think that they can make the corrupt and abusive tax system a little easier on themselves, they will try to negotiate to that end with the people who intentionally made it so. the whole concept of the government forcing you to provide information about yourself which they will then use to prosecute you (including imprisonment, wage garnishment, asset freezes, and forfeiture) was UNCONSTITUTIONAL until the same people who made beer illegal (during prohibition) passed the income tax ammendment. you can beg and plead the corrupt power brokers to please please please make your life simpler and politicians, being politicians, will make all sorts of promises, but where does their power come from? it comes from having power over your life and being able to promise things to different people, groups, and organizations. most people don't even realize that personal income taxes represent a minority of federal revenues, yet the IRS completely involves itself in every minutia of everyone's personal life: penalizing you when you get married, "encouraging" you to have kids, punishing you when you are industrious and hire people, keeping track of your bank accounts, property, income, employer/business, family members, etc. they even use facebook and credit bureaus to spy on you.
entertain this thought: what would happen in the economy if corporate and income taxes were completely ABOLISHED (returning to the founders' constitution)? in other words, if there were no more threats of your home being taken and family thrown out in the street, wouldn't industrious people have more incentive to start businesses and invest in businesses and work hard? think about the profiability of business in such a system as compared to the rest of the world and where businesses would want to locate. there is no doubt that getting rid of corporate and personal income taxes would completely revolutionize the economy and pretty much ensure employment at competitive wages for anyone willing and able to work. this EMPOWERS the people and TAKES POWER AWAY from the politicians.
the main argument against sales taxes is that people at the bottom of the income curve are generally applying all of there income to subsistence and therefore it is unfair to tax them (although they are being charged payroll and ss taxes NOW for a bankrupt system that stole all the retirement money and spent in on whatever the crooks wanted). the FAIRTAX would completely untax every american up to the poverty line with a "prebate" check equal to a fairly generous estimate of the amount of sales taxes paid each month on subsistence. NO TAXES UP TO THE POVERTY LEVEL.
it's not just a matter of begging the corrupt politicians to give you a break and make your life easier. it's a matter of the wild card in human history the founding fathers drew when they set up a government with separate branches with checks and balances and a BILL OF RIGHTS that LIMITS government power over the people. because we live in america, we can have any opinions we want. we can say the sky is green and 2+2=9 (especially when the government exempts itself from g.a.a.p. and all the rules the irs and sec apply to us). but there comes a time when we need to look at this bankrupt corrupt train wreck of a system we have and question those calling themselves americans who praise castro and che geuvarra and chairman mao and those who wave the flag saying they need to patrioticly listen to your private phone calls in order to protect you from terrorists. this mess is all a result of giving up our rights in exchange for a few empty promises from currupt politicians. power to the people
