Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to talk with Service Managers about your car and the work that you feel should be honoured by the dealer?

What specific questions do you have in a previous life I was a Assistant Service Manager.

My 5 year 110K warranty expired on Nov 7th. My vehicle only has 85K on it.
On Saturday the crankshaft sensor quit on me (in the middle of an intersection). The service guys ran a diagnostic and told me that if the timing belt was not in good shape then it would have to be replaced (as pieces of it may have fallen on the sensor). Along with that some other part needed to also be replaced (otherwise they wouldn't be able to guarantee their work). What initially was quoted as a $650 job in the end was $1200.
I had the vehicle in on Oct 31 for them to check it out head to toe for issues knowing that the warranty was expiring soon. Two belts/hoses were replaced (not under warranty).
The timing of it all seems a bit too coincidental ... the timing belt "goes" only days after the warranty expires.
I know of many other people who have had their service managers cover expenses such as this when the warranty had expired.
This is my first time dealing with this dealership and make of car.
Any suggestions you have are welcomed. Thanks.

Timing belts are just that a belt and made from rubber, most timing belts need to be replaced every 100K. 85K is a little early but not too early that any dealership would warranty it, in fact a timing belt is not something that is covered under warranty unless it happens really early on. Just like brakes they eventually need replacing, if the brakes malfunctioned within the first 10K they would probably cover the cost even though they aren't covered under warranty.

Sorry to say this is just a routine deal that just happened to come a little early for you.

Why can't this happen two months after the holidays!!
