For no other reason than the days are longer, the lavendar in Vancouver is blooming and the crocus are popping up. The snow is coming tonight, and it's been fairly cold for the west coast. I am looking so forward to February which brings the cherry and apple blossoms. Living in a condo, I really miss gardening but my lanai is large enough for decorating and container gardening. Does anyone know what flowering plants I should buy this spring for a sunny location? The last two years I have had an aphid infestation so I am almost leaning more towards designer grasses in different colours and varieties.

You might want to try purple fountain grass. It's an annual in my area (too cold in the winter) and the ones I had in my garden grew to about 3 1/2 feet tall. Just make sure your container is wide, a minimum of 12", preferably 18" in diameter. The foliage is great, and sways nicely in the breeze.

Sounds Lovely. I really enjoy texture, colour and movement in plants. My favorite trees are Trembling Aspens. They are much like poplars with silvery leaves that flutter in the wind and make a tinkling noise. I discovered them in Flagstaff Arizona. You have to plant them in clusters as most of them will die off. Visually they are a gorgeous medium sizred tree. Thanks for the suggestion.
