A friend is coming in from out of town and she is looking for things to do with her kids while she is here (She lives in a small rural community with not much to do/see). So, I rattled off the usual attractions: amusement parks, zoo, science center, and museum; but what about other 'fun' stuff to do. Any suggestions?

She has 3 kids ages: 5, 8 and 12.

I am not really sure if you need any more suggestion, amusement park has got to be one of the best places to take kids. At least when I was a little one that's where I wanted to go. Come to think of it, I still like them!

I guess I should clarify a little more: She's looking for cheaper activities to do with her kids. It can get quite pricey out there.

Depending on the weather, why not pack a picnic lunch and spend some time at either Wasaga Beach or Centennial Beach in Barrie? Provided you can take one vehicle, it should make for a relatively inexpensive afternoon. If you want to spend take a whole day, try Awenda Provincial Park just outside Penetang.
