A letter from SpiritedOne

From the day I heard about Datepad, my life has been an adventure. On the day I received a phone call telling me that I had won the Dream Date Getaway, I knew the adventure had only just begun. Where to go? What to do and see?....so many decisions.

Our cruise took us from Vancouver, BC to Ketchikan, AK then sailing to the Hubbard Glacier, back down to Juneau, AK for some whale watching and Sitka, AK for some sea kayaking and finally back to home port in Vancouver.

Ketchikan, AK – The rain forest town offered us only rain however the sight of a seal swimming slowly among the salmon beneath a waterfall helped to offset our soggy visit.

Hubbard Glacier – The captain steered us the closest ever to this wonder however, the pictures cannot do this adventure justice. Our balcony offered us a safe haven from the wind and the rain – as well as our own dolphin show! We couldn't have anticipated anything as romantic as sharing glasses of wine amidst the majestic beauty of ice, blue sea and green mountains. This day will forever be one of our most romantic.

Juneau, AK – A bald headed eagle greeted us on arrival. A trip to another glacier allowed us a view of a bear cub attempting to catch the salmon heading upstream. Due to unfortunate circumstances (read: poor planning) we only managed to get two photos of the many humpback whales. Although we saw sea lions and harbour seals, these are to remain only in our memories. Juneau is certainly a place to experience romance in a wild setting.

Sitka, AK – Sunshine, a rare occurrence, greeted us here! Sea kayaking amongst the spawning salmon while bald headed eagles soared above was everything we could have imagined and then some.

Walks along the open decks at sunrise and nights sitting on the balcony just listening to the waves and enjoying the peacefulness will forever be with us.

Our final formal evening began with the orca whales swimming beside us as if to bring us home safely and it ended with the full moon reflecting off of the calm ocean – Hollywood could not have written a more perfect script for a most romantic trip of a lifetime.
